I love today’s guest blogger – Kimbo West from A Girl and a Glue Gun. This is quite possibly one of the funniest ladies out there in blogging today, she is just so real and her posts are absolutely hilarious. I am of the opinion that every woman out there should own a glue gun, it is like the cure for any household problem. A glue gun to me is what Windex is to the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding…shower curtain rod problems? Get the glue gun. Handle falling off? Where is my glue gun? Hinge issues? Oh gluuuuuuuuuuuue gun! Lol, ok, so I am just kidding…sort of. Glue guns rock though, and Kimbo knows it.

She is constantly making fabulous creations with it…



My personal favorite is probably all of her ‘hair crap’ posts though…

I just love that she calls it hair crap. I cant tell you how often that is what I am calling it when I find it all over the floors of our house! HA!

But of course she wields more than a glue gun, Kimbo has all sorts of fabulous tutorials including sewing, jewelry, paint, paper, etc. Naturally I am partial to her mad sewing skills…

I am so excited to see what this fantastic lady could have up her sleeve as her New Years ReSewLution!!! So please help me welcome Kim to the Series.

so, i’m pretty nervous to be here.

i have to admit..

i sew.

but i love my glue gun better.

and this month at me sew crazy has been filled with awesome sewing stuff! `

my re -SEW- lution…is to ACTUALLY use the fabric i have.

i keep buying and buying

and then i never want to use it cause it’s just so cute!

but pretty soon i’m going to have to go on hoarders for all the fabric that i have.

(i just organized it!)

so this year (and this year only) i’m going to try to use what i have!

i got this 3/4 of a yard in the remnants bin for 50% off the discounted price

(ie cheap)

and i got it cause it was a steal of a deal..

but it’s fleece.

and it was too small for a fleece blanket.

so it sat in my stash for about 3 years!

TODAY it’s get’s a new life as a pocket scarf.

i dusted it off…and cut out some strips.

I actually got two scarfs.. a small for 2-5 year old

and a large that my 8 year old daughter could wear and up….

they are about 9 inches wide

the little scarf it just the length of the fabric..

but the large is two strips sewed together.

and you can do the pockets two ways….

You can fold up the ends and sew the sides…

(if you choose this method you need to make sure you scarf is long enough to put your hands in the pockets comfortable. you don’t want your arms doing chicken wings just to put them in your pocket.

method 2:

you can cut a completely separate piece and sew it on.

I choose this one so i could get the skull and crossbones centered where i wanted it.

you just sew up the three sides and leave the top open..

and since it’s fleece

that means no fraying..

which means no need to finish the edges..

which implies i’m lazy.

and i’m okay with that.

and that’s all. super easy. super functional…and great for those kids that can’t keep their gloves from getting lost if their life depended on it.

i also make these handwarmers

that you could throw in the pocket of the scarf to keep you extra toastie.

Kim, that pocket scarf is awesome! My little girls would love that, but I think their Littlest Pet Shops would benefit most from it with a free ride – HA! And can I say how jealous I am of your super organized fabric closet? Mine is still all in a big, ever growing stash that just keeps growing and growing and growing…

    VERY cute idea. And amen to the not having to finish any edges. I’m good with being lazy like that too!

    I have some fleece upstairs and I think I can hear it calling to be made into a pocket scarf…

    My 8yo ds would LOVE that scarf…might have to break my sewing machine out of the box…which it has been sitting in since it was given to me for Christmas….two years ago….yeah, I need to learn how to sew ;)

    That is a great idea for fleece leftovers- even better with handwarmers. :) I love how organized that fabric is!
