Have you ever noticed how many powder blue knit baby pants there are on the market for baby boys? Don’t get me wrong, I love baby blue…but really?!!
After looking around at the rows of T Shirts at the thrift store, I decided there was something I could do about it after all.
With a little zig zag stitching, I was able to turn an old T Shirt into these faux knee patch pants for Ben. It is rather simple really.
Firstly, you will need the pattern pieces found HERE.
Once you have cut out your pattern pieces…
And there you have it! A very easy way to whip up a quick pair of knit T Shirt pants, while adding a few embellishments to help them stand out from the crowd.
Thank you so much for stopping by, and until next time…
Happy Sewing!

Hi Jessica, I want to make size 2T. I think I would add more length. Should I add more width too? and how much
Hi Tara!
For a size 2T, I usually make the inseam around 12″ total in length (not including hem allowance if you need it).
As for width, I think that depends on how loose you want them to be on your 2 year old. As you can see, I made mine loose, for baby I like loose clothes so they can move easy. If I was making for my 2 year old, I would probably add an 1″ and see how that fits.
Hope this helps! let me know how it turns out!
Mine turns out really cute. Thanks for your hints.

Ha! So cute Jessica. I used to make lots of pants this way but now my kids are getting too big and t-shirts aren’t big enough anymore
Oh he’s so cute! I think I had a dream that I was hanging out with him.
Holy cow, these are super awesome!!!
I’m a sucker for putting our boys in blue!
I think it’s funny that you wanted colors other than baby blue… I’m pretty sure I’ll be scouring our 2nd hand stores for exactly that.. baby blue to make more blue pants
This has been added to my “Upcycling” board on Pinterest, and hopefully I will try it this weekend.
Thank you for posting this!!!!
Omg I hate sewing puns but yours made me giggle
