Put a Chain on It…a Clutch Closure Tutorial

For ALT Summit I wanted something new, fresh and fun to carry around all of my documents. I loved Mandy’s Fabric Document Holder so much, that I decided to use it again for this conference!

But this time I decided to put my own spin on it…

I love this clutch because it is so easy to sew together, and it really adds a touch of class to your notebook, pens and paper. Adding a pin closure couldn’t be simpler too!

Once you have finished making the envelope document holder and have the sides sewn down, you will need a large decorative pin found at your local Jo-Ann Fabrics, and around 10″ of jewelry chain.

To attach the chain to the envelope clutch simply…

And there you have it, super simple and super cute! I felt so trendy carrying this around – lol. The same technique could really be applied to any purse closure. Just be sure the fabric you used has a loose weave so that you can easily slip the pin in and out of it. Quilting Cotton will NOT work. I used a herringbone wool and it was perfect!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…

Happy Sewing!
