Today’s post is for a cause that I hold very near and dear to my heart. An effort to help women that have been the victim of human sex trafficking. Andrea couldn’t have known this when she first reached out to me – but human sex trafficking is something I have been praying about with my women’s church group. We pray for different parts of the world every month, and learn about the women there – how the victims fall pray, and what typically becomes of them. The stories are always so heart wrenching, especially when you start to think of your own daughter. Human sex trafficking is very real, happening to real women, in a not so large world.
500,000 children between the ages of 5 and 15 years are forced into the sex trade every year.
But things like this don’t happen where I live.
Many times we think of human sex trafficking as only happening in far off places. But it is also happening in your very own backyard, it is just called by a different name. Prostitution. When a young girl between the ages of 12-14 gets forced onto the street to make money for someone, and then gets stuck in that situation – ending up manipulated and frightened of escape. That my friends, is human sex trafficking.
How can I help?
Will you make a bracelet or a zippered pouch for a girl in Thailand, India, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Amsterdam or even the United States? We’ll be distributing them through many organizations that work directly with women and girls fresh out of the sex trade in desperate need of love and healing.
Andrea will be sharing bracelet and zipper pouch inspirations all this week to help you get creative and get involved.
Will you to gather your friends together to make these? Have a She’s Worth It Party to make bracelets or pouches with your friends, church family, girl scouts, etc.!
Along with the bracelets and zipper pouches, we’re also asking that you donate $10. Just $10. Your $10 will be helping fund two projects we fully believe in. (If you can’t donate, we’d still love for you to make something!)
- Father’s House: a safe house for children in Cambodia who are at risk for being trafficked. This home is run by In His Steps International. You can read more about it here.
- The Sewing Project: we’ll be raising money for a group of mothers in an Indian village who have been freed from the sex industry and are learning sewing as a trade! The funds will also help hire a social worker to help them with them with rehabilitation. This project is run by Indian Rescue Mission.
- Bracelets & Zipper Pouch Project: These items will be mailed to ME and I will send them to the organizer of She’s Worth It who will be hand delivering some in Cambodia during her May trip there. She will be dividing the rest and delivering them to the organizations sponsored by She’s Worth It. You can see all the organizations HERE.
