With the warmer temperatures finally here, we are taking full advantage of getting outside to do as much as we can. There is something so magical about Spring, everything just seems to come alive again.
As I was trying to figure out what elaborate plans we could do with the kids, my husband gently reminded me of the joys of just being at home. That you don’t always have to run around entertaining with activity after activity, that the act of playing in the environment around you can be some of the best memories made. I often forget that, thinking that I need to bring the kids to the aquarium, beach, museum, anywhere that will ‘wow’ the kids. When sometimes, the backyard playground is enough. The joys of just being with your family, enjoying time together, the good old fashion and natural way.
As soon as my husband suggested a backyard camp-out, I knew we had the perfect family weekend planned.
We got the bonfire going, and roasted some marshmallows…
I don’t know about you, but the ones that catch on fire are my favorite.
We explored nature with flashlights when it got dark out. Looked for fish, played on the swings, and ate hot dogs. Being an outdoorsy type, he was one proud Papa of his girls.
It was a bit on the chilly side, we must have used 2 to 3 blankets each for the girls that night. But I was so proud of them, they both zonked out and slept all through the night. A camping first! Through the barking dogs, the air mattress refill, and everything! And woke up to delicious homemade blueberry pancakes made in the shape of their initials the next morning. I got a big huge I Love You Mom for that one :).
Man and campfire, aaaaaaaargh.
We had a blast, and hope to have many more as the Summer progresses. Its always the little things that make the biggest impact. I am glad I was reminded of that this past weekend.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
