Ikat is one of those prints that I am pretty much obsessed with. Like a moth to a flame, any time I see this gorgeous textile sitting in the fabric store it simply must come home with me. And this gorgeous handwoven Ikat was no exception.
I just couldn’t help myself, I adore it so.
I made these awesome shorts using the Marlene Trousers Pattern from BurdaStyle, and they fit fabulous. I ended up sewing down the large front pleat to give it a more slimming design, and then for extra flair added a fun front bow. The bow is sewn directly into the waistband sides, a super easy add-on that really give these shorts a feminine twist.
For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you know that I finished these shorts weeks ago. And I asked for your help with styling them, here is what we came up with:
I am a fan of wearing simple tops, and then accessorizing with fun jewelry. It allows for the look to go from a more casual daytime look, to ‘pass the wine please’.
The jewelry was all provided for the photoshoot by my good friend Rachel of Stella & Dot, and can be found here. Looking for a stylist? I am not kidding when I say, she is your woman! She can make me feel like a million bucks in under 2 minutes of walking through her door.
You see, I had so much fun on Project Sewn sewing gorgeous attire for myself and styling it, that I found it really helped me figure out how to incorporate my hand-sewn creations into my daily attire. And I absolutely love the way this outfit turned out…
Can you spot my little helper in the above photo?
By mixing in my hand-made creations with store-bought lovelies, I have a look that is unique and fabulous – something I personally love, and that no one would guess came off my cutting table.
So tell me, what are you sewing for yourself…
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
