You know those moments that happen in the entertainment industry that you always remember? The ones that make your mouth drop, the ones that you can’t stop talking about, or the ones that bring back memories from your childhood? I was thinking on the moment Britney, poor Britney, shaved her head. Quite honestly, she probably handled her situation better than most of us would have. But I remember exactly the moment of seeing her shaved head photo for the first time…my heart broke for her and how girlfriend needed to get some help. She needed a friend who would sew her a beanie. 10 Beanies for that fact.
Which got me thinking….what are some other famous pop culture moments and their corresponding DIYs? Let’s have some fun, shall we?
Iconic Pop Culture Moments, and their DIYs.
*And yes, I realize this is an utterly ridiculous post. But what is life without a little bit of fun every now and then?!! 🙂
1. Friends TV Show Series -> 2 Ingredient Cocktail Round Up
Because didn’t we all have friends come over to watch Friends and Seinfeld? Those were the days…when you actually watched TV L-I-V-E, commercials and all. And would count down every week until Thursday night, and you just had to be home. These iconic shows brought us so much laughter over the years, and I miss watching them so much. Thank goodness for Netflix!
2. Bjork Swan Dress -> Flamingo Costume DIY
Was there anyone more risk taking than Bjork? Long before Lady Gaga, there was Bjork. And she has been rocking Red Carpet awesomeness for the past 15 years or so. Way before ‘Red Carpet eccentric’ became chic, we had Bjork and her swan dress. The world stood up and took notice.
3. The Royal Wedding -> Birdcage Veil DIY
Did anybody watch anything else that day, or was your TV glued to the royal wedding as well? I mean – we got to see a real live woman turn into a Princess. Not just a Disney Cartoon, but Kate Middleton – whom we have all fallen in love with. It was just stunning.
4. The Selfie that Rocked the Nation -> DIY Photo Pillows
Ellen took the ULTIMATE celebrity selfie, and there wasn’t a person living in America that didn’t see this photo the next day. We all ran out and bought selfie sticks after that. Lol – someone needs to send her this photograph on a pillow.
5. Real World, Season 1 -> 8 Chic IKEA Hacks
True story. Ok, so maybe I was raised in an MTV generation. When TRL was cool and hosted in Times Square, and New Kids on the Block were hanging tough. But the REAL WORLD?!! The first one, with Eric and Julie. They were the first reality television show (that I know of), and they made us all sit up and cheer. We LOVED them. And we all wanted to live in their apartments…well, maybe not the first one in NYC. The houses got way cooler as the seasons went on, but the people got way lamer. So we all stopped watching after a while, because nothing could beat Season 1. Nothing.
6. Y2K -> Laptop Tote DIY
Where were you when the world was supposed to end? When we were all nervous that every single computer system was going to shut down completely, or the city was going to go DARK. I partied like it was 1999 that night in NYC. I survived the Y2K bug. Lol
7. Wardrobe Malfunction -> Easy DIY Bralette
Miss Jackson if your nasty. We all love Janet, I grew up listening to her music. She broke ground, and is an absolute icon in my humble opinion. But that Superbowl halftime show…EEK! We all squealed when that moment happened. You know the moment. Nobody was ready for that. Nobody.
8. Michael Jordan -> Basketball Bag DIY
I don’t care who comes next. Nobody is better than Michael, NOBODY. He exemplifies the best in sportsmanship, while being a true hero to the kids who looked up to him. He was a gentleman at all times – and brought in 6 NBA championships. Nobody could stop the Bulls and their dream team – and I was honored to have been able to see them play live. I have yet to see a player even come close to his greatness.
9. Mark Wahlberg Calvin Klein Ad -> Underwear DIY
Back then we knew him as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and we loved him regardless. Even though, or maybe because, he was Donnie’s younger brother. But when he stepped up and did this Calvin Klein underwear ad, we all suddenly knew what HIS name was…not just his younger brother status.
10. Kanye’s Award Speech Interruptions-> Oscar Ken Dolls
Kanye has a thing for award speeches, and letting his feelings be heard. We all made a collective gasp watching him usurp Taylor’s moment – and then almost do it AGAIN to Beck. Love him or hate him, he is outrageous. But somebody needs to stop letting him present awards already – lol.
11. Hey Ya / Crazy in Love -> Running Belt DIY
Two music video moments that I clearly remember going – WHAT WAS THAT AWESOMENESS?!! – the first time I saw them. ‘Hey Ya’, and ‘Crazy in Love’. I mean – I could say Thriller too, but that is going back a bit too far. But these 2 videos made me stand up and dance. They made the whole nation stand up and dance for that fact! I personally think it was the first time Beyonce stood up and took reign as Queen Bey.
12. JLo’s Green Dress -> How to Use Fashion Tape
When she walked down that Red Carpet, everyone’s jaw dropped. We had never seen anything like that before. It became the infamous green dress. Sure, we all saw WAY MORE body than we ever wanted to see of JLo (at least, I speak for myself). But it was a moment that was rather incredible – she was a vision. And she was on PDiddy’s arm, which made it even more awesome. I wish they would get back together. Lol
And there you have it.
12 iconic pop culture moments from recent history, and their correlating DIYs. I had fun putting together today’s post, and I hope it made you smile as well :).
Thanks so much for stopping by, until next time…
