As I said on my last Sewing Rabbit post, I absolutely LOVE sewing spring dresses! One of my favorite patterns and one that I see ALL OVER pinterest is the Blake dress by Farrah of Mingo and Grace. I have sewn up this pattern before in a dark denim for fall but wanted to make a lovely spring version that could be worn for both spring and summer. I love this pattern so much. I love the full soft pleated skirt and the slight racer back bodice. The pockets are definitely a favorite for my girls.

For this pattern I love the look of an extra full skirt so I like to use heavier weight fabrics. The polka dot fabric I used is from a store called Home Fabrics. They have lots of home decor and upholstery fabric. I know it sounds a little funny to be wearing upholstery fabric but for this pattern I think the heavy weight is perfect! I loved the green polka dots when I saw it and knew it would make the perfect Blake dress. For the lining I chose a light green and white striped cotton but this pattern can be made with or without a lining.
For the floral dress I used a beautiful floral denim twill from Girl Charlee. The second I saw it I had to snag a couple of yards. I have many ideas for this fabric and I think it is the perfect floral for spring! I just love the colors and thought it coordinated well with the polka dot fabric I used for the other dress. I don’t like to have my girls completely matching but I do like it when they coordinate with each other. For this dress I lined it with the green and white striped cotton as well.
This pattern is a must have in my opinion and is such a classic for all seasons. If you have never experimented with home decor or upholstery weight fabrics in fashion sewing give it a try! The Blake dress is the perfect pattern to do it with. I hope I have given you a little sewing inspiration!
