My brother and I went to Catholic schools when we were growing up, which required us to wear pretty traditional uniforms. Because of that, I wonder if somewhere in my subconscious I feel like little girls headed to school should be wearing sweet little dresses with pretty collars and pleated skirts. Maybe, maybe not. But either way, as soon as I saw the Maren dress from the Sew What Club I needed to make it!
There are so many options for back to school sewing, but when it comes to my girl, she just loooves her dresses. I couldn’t have loved this sweet silhouette more, and quickly put one together for my girl.

The pattern is a fast sew, really fast actually! I am still getting my sewing mojo back after a few month hiatus so I appreciated cute details on a straightforward design. A pretty little keyhole opening in the back, easy but pretty sleeves, A-line, drop waist, and my favorite collar shape-rounded and pointed! 🙂 Am I right? It is totally my favorite collar.
I found this Lotta Jansdotter fabric at Jo Ann Fabrics and literally squealed out loud (much to the horror of the woman and her husband who were shopping behind me.) I love the modern yellow dots, almost like big grape clusters, and in my favorite bold mustard-y shade of yellow. When Hannah walked by when I was cutting it out, she declared, “Oooo I love my new dress!! Will it have a pink skirt?”No honey, no pink skirt this time. But I did find a good muted purple/pink in my stash to use as the collar and that seemed to appease her for now. Whew!! I am not ready to give in to all of the pink and purple requests that are undoubtedly coming my way!
My little monkey could barely stand still in this dress!! The beautiful drop waist and pleats make sure that it still has plenty of twirl factor and is great to run around in, which she did. Constantly. Actually I was chasing her to get most of these photos. 🙂
This dress is a part of the September bundle so it’s still available now with membership to the Sew What Club.
You will love it!!
As always, happy sewing!!
