While decorating my front porch for Christmas, I kept noticing that the top of my chairs needed something. They needed a POP of color. After thinking a bit on it, and digging through my fabric stash, I decided to make a headrest pillow to bring some color up to the top. These hanging headrest pillows are super easy to make, taking less than 1 hour to sew.
Skill level – Beginner
Time needed – 1 hour
How to sew a hanging headrest pillow.
- (1) 20″W x 14″L cotton fabric for pillow
- (1) 30″W x 4.5″L cotton fabric for straps
- Basic sewing essentials
Step One – Cut out fabric as indicated.
Step Two – Fold strap in half right sides together, so that the long raw edge meets up. Pin and sew long outer edge.
Step Three – Turn strap right side out, fold raw outer edges in and sew. Fold the strap in half so that the outer side edges meet up. Press in the middle.
Step Four – Fold pillow in half, right sides together, matching up the shorter side edges. Slip strap inside the middle, with the folded center of the strap along the top center of the pillow. Pin in place. Pin around all edges and sew, leaving a 4″ opening along the bottom edge.
Step Five – Turn pillow right side out and push corners out. Press. Fill with Poly-fil and pin opening closed. Whipstitch closed.
Tie pillow around the top of your chair, and you are finished.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time…
